for the last two weeks, we've been busy working on the stage set for the IFP (Independent Filmmaker Project) Gotham Awards ceremony - design, production and installation. The event was held in the cavernous Cipriani on Wall St, was an amazing bash with all your favorite film stars and went very well. Just for scale - the stage is 24 feet wide

For first Thursday in DUMBO and through the weekend, spring is hosting an installation of dual videos by Jeanne Wilkinson. VOYAGE is a project involving the 'liberation' of the two bronze panthers that stare off over the buildings from the entrance to Prospect Park - they stride outwards but go nowhere, each standing on a high pedestal, forever separated by a wide strip of blacktop. In many places where they used to roam, they have been all but eradicated. These iconic symbols now live more in our imagination than in reality.

Formerly an abstract painter, Jeanne Wilkinson now incorporates her paintings and drawings into complex and mysterious digital collages and animations. Her first animation – “GreenHeart” – was screened at BAM-Rose Cinema in “Scene: Brooklyn” sponsored by the Brooklyn Arts Council. Her work has been shown extensively both in New York City and internationally. She teaches art and art history at Kingsborough Community College (CUNY) and Pratt Institute.

This exhibition was made possible by a Faculty Development grant from Pratt Institute

BREAKINGTHEMOLD explores the interaction between conceptual process driven and functional design through the works of some of the most interesting and forward thinking projects today. The show looks at modern design as a cultural influence. Featuring among others, the living and originality, locality and provenance of AtelierNL; the self-imposed limitations and combinations of Ineke Hans' black porcelain; the chance results and individuality of Laurens van Wierengen's project; and Ron Gilad's fruit bowl/stands, that through reduction no longer resemble the assumed shape of a bowl. We've also been lucky enough to be able to include Patrick Jouin's bloom - a '3D printed' piece that really stretches the mind and gives a hint at future possibilities in moving away from the traditional molding process

We were saddened to hear that Don Ervin died on March 10th resulting from a car accident. We were introduced to Don and his wife Wilma's world through a good friend Gretchen, their daughter. Even before we opened spring, we knew that we wanted to show his amazing cars made from household parts and we were happy to be able to present them in FASTFORWARD in 2005. These pieces reflect Don's character in their inventiveness, skill and sense of humor.

Amy Lau design is creating a DEXTER dining room experience, down to every last detail, collaborating with many talented artists and designers with special editions being made available exclusively through spring design&art
The room features a table ready for a sit down dinner for twelve. Curious of what it could be like to eat with Dexter? This is not about what will be served, it is all about how to savor it... the table is set to play with our senses. Setting the mood are Amy Lau's chairs, elegant, wounded and slashed; the clean, protective plastic tablecloth; the blood vials centerpieces. The table is surrounded by Steven Antonson’s candlesticks, reminiscent of vertebrae and filled with blood red candles, they easily fit a murderer’s grip. Sip fine wines from Thomas Fuchs/Otium designed glassware with luminous 'blood -filled' stems and ominous fingerprints. Chose your weapon. Savor the delectable dinner while challenged by Steve Butcher's dismembered flatware, a fascinating and disturbing set. Nadeige Choplet's handmade ceramic plates celebrate the love of blood via an intricate pattern of blood splatters, veins and capillaries under a delicate porcelain skin; and finally dessert can be enjoyed on Klein Reid's fine porcelain, served with the fine trace of a fingerprint.
All this is presented under the sensual lighting by Grégoire Abrial of Amy Lau Design, a baroque cacophony of wine glasses and pure white; and surrounded by fantastic works as Jane D'Arensbourg's Coronal Section, the glass installation reminiscent of flowing organic cells and brain patterns; and Angelica Bergamini's elixir of life an airy curtain that truly gives life to the light that floods the room.
